Dining at Provenance is always a joy, but after one of my last visits here in 2019, I never would have thought it would become even more special. In March 2020, everything changed in the UK. Covid-19 spread over the world, and England had to go into lockdown.

Eating out has changed
For me eating out and travelling had changed in January already. On the 18th of that month, we landed in Singapore for a well-deserved winter break in Singapore and Malaysia. By then Covid-19 had reached Singapore and Malaysia, so we had to be on our guard. It didn’t affect our fantastic holiday too much, but we had to adapt.
As a foodie, I love to dine out, which hasn’t been possible since 26 March. Many trips had to be cancelled, including a stay at one of our favourite restaurants in England, L’Enclume.

Alfresco dining at Provenance
When the pubs re-opened beginning July, we decided to take it easy, only using the outside facilities at our local and a quick bite at a cafe. Last Saturday, we booked a table for lunch at Provenance Kitchen. We don’t go here often as it is on the other side of Cambridge.
It was a lovely sunny afternoon. Perfect for a lazy summer’s day’s lunch. It reminded me of peaceful lunches at vineyards in the Cape Winelands, a place I used to call home. No vines to be spotted here, but stunning fig trees and raised beds with herbs and summer crops.

Locally sourced food at Provenance
When the food arrived, we imagined we were in Italy. Delicious Burrata with courgette, Pork Lomo, plumbs and ricotta washed down with a crisp Sicilian glass of white wine. Life couldn’t be any better. For mains, I had tagliatelle with courgette, and my other half had the burger.
Provenance Kitchen is passionate about great food serving the best seasonal produce by local farmers and suppliers. Their monthly changing menus incorporate the freshest market ingredients, and their independent Modern British food reflects the outstanding product quality, which is the cornerstone of Provenance Kitchen.

About Provenance
Provenance Kitchen Brix + Mortar was born out of an original Airstream and horsebox trailer, offering delicious food in beautiful settings and at local venues. They still offer this service and collaborate with venues and unique locations for seasonal feasts.
We were seated in the beautiful courtyard outside their spacious restaurant. You can find the Airstream now in the open green space next to the restaurant serving guests in the garden.
Provenance Kitchen is definitely worth the trip. I am looking forward to my next visit!
